California Privacy Notice

Effective Date: April 24, 2026

Last Updated: September 18, 2026

This California Privacy Notice supplements our Privacy Policy and applies to California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).

Categories of Personal Information We Collect

In the past 12 months we have collected: Identifiers (name, email, IP address); Personal records (ZIP code, service category, pet type); Geolocation data (approximate location derived from the ZIP code you enter in our search tools); Commercial information (membership tier, payment history); Internet activity (pages visited, browser type, interactions with tracking technologies); and Sensitive personal information (SSN and DOB collected by Checkr on our behalf for background checks only — we do not store this data directly).

How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information for the purposes described in our Privacy Policy, including operating the platform and our free tools, processing payments, conducting background checks, measuring and promoting our services, and communicating with users.

Sharing Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share personal information with service providers (Checkr, Stripe, GoHighLevel, ZeroBounce) solely to provide our services, under written agreements that restrict their use of your data.

We also use Google Analytics and a Meta (Facebook) pixel on our website. Under California law, the use of these technologies may be considered "sharing" of internet activity and identifiers for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to opt out of this sharing, as described below.

Our free adoptable-pet search tool displays listings provided by RescueGroups.org and participating rescue and shelter organizations, and includes an analytics image from RescueGroups.org that reports listing views back to the originating organization. This is used for adoption-listing analytics, not for advertising to you.

Your California Privacy Rights

As a California resident you have the right to:

  • Know — request disclosure of the personal information we have collected about you and how it is used;
  • Delete — request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions;
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate information we hold about you;
  • Opt Out of Sharing — opt out of the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising;
  • Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — we do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide our services;
  • Non-Discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

How to Opt Out of Sharing for Advertising

You may opt out of sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising by emailing us at support@happypetlist.com with the subject line Opt Out. We also honor opt-out preference signals sent by your browser, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC).
