Happy Pet List ("HPL," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Open for Business, LLC, a California company. We connect pet parents with pet care professionals across the United States. Our website is located at happypetlist.com.
What Information We Collect
From Pet Parents: Full name, email address, ZIP code, pet type(s).
From Pet Professionals: Full name, business name (if applicable), email address, ZIP code, service category, business description and profile information.
From Solo Hands-On Providers (Background Check Applicants): We do not collect or store your Social Security Number or date of birth. This information is submitted directly to Checkr, Inc., our third-party background screening provider, through their secure platform. Please review Checkr's Privacy Policy at checkr.com for details on how they handle your data.
Payment Information: We do not store your credit card or payment information. All payments are processed securely by Stripe, Inc. Please review Stripe's Privacy Policy at stripe.com for details on how they handle your data.
Free Tools: When you use our free tools, such as our adoptable-pet search, we collect the ZIP code and search preferences you enter in order to return relevant results near you. This location information is approximate and used to perform your search.
Automatically Collected Information: When you use our website, we may automatically collect IP address, browser type and version, pages visited and time spent, and referring website. Some pages include third-party tracking technologies from our partners. These include Google Analytics (for website usage measurement), a Meta (Facebook) pixel (to help us understand and promote our services), and an adoption-listing analytics image provided by RescueGroups.org (described below). You can control advertising-related tracking as described in our California Privacy Notice.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: create and manage your account; display your provider profile to pet parents; operate our free tools, including displaying adoptable-pet listings near you; process payments for membership and background check fees; send transactional emails related to your account; send membership-related communications via our marketing platform (GoHighLevel); measure, understand, and promote our services; respond to your support requests; improve our platform and user experience; detect and prevent unauthorized automated access, scraping, or abuse of our platform; and comply with legal obligations.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share your information with: Checkr, Inc. (to conduct background checks on solo hands-on providers); Stripe, Inc. (to process payments); GoHighLevel (to manage provider communications, including email and SMS); ZeroBounce (to verify the validity and deliverability of email addresses); Google LLC (through Google Analytics, for website usage measurement); Meta Platforms, Inc. (through the Facebook pixel, for analytics and advertising related to our services); and legal authorities when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Provider profile information (name, business name, service category, location, contact details) is displayed publicly on the Happy Pet List platform as part of the directory service.
We collect and log certain access data — including IP addresses and usage patterns — to detect and prevent unauthorized automated access, scraping, or abuse of our platform.
Adoptable Pet Listings
Our free adoptable-pet search tool displays listings of animals available for adoption that are provided by RescueGroups.org and the rescue and shelter organizations that participate in its network. This information originates from those organizations, not from Happy Pet List. We display it for informational purposes only and do not sell it. Adoptable-pet detail pages include an analytics image provided by RescueGroups.org that reports listing views back to the originating rescue or shelter. Your use of this listing data may also be subject to RescueGroups.org's own terms and privacy practices.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your personal information; and opt out of marketing communications at any time.
