Effective: April 30, 2026
These Background Check Terms apply exclusively to individual ("solo") hands-on pet care providers — including dog walkers, pet sitters, dog hosts, and drivers — who are required to complete a background check as a condition of being listed on the Happy Pet List ("HPL") directory.
All solo hands-on providers must pass a background check before their profile is published in the HPL directory. This requirement applies regardless of membership tier (Silver or Gold).
Background checks are conducted by Checkr, Inc., an independent consumer reporting agency ("CRA").

HPL collects a one-time $54.99 background check fee, which is remitted to Checkr to conduct the screening. This fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the background check.
HPL reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to decline to list or to remove any provider based on the results of a background check. HPL is not required to disclose the specific basis for any listing denial.
You have the right to request a free copy of your background check report directly from Checkr. You may dispute any inaccurate information in your report by logging into the Checkr Candidate Portal at candidate.checkr.com or by mailing your dispute to Checkr Inc., 1 Montgomery St., Suite 2400, San Francisco, CA 94104.
